We spent the nation’s 250th birthday at camp in Webster County, West Virginia. I wrote about camp a couple of months ago here. The heat was staggering, but the company was wonderful.
I hauled my tractor to camp and did some brush hogging. We hunkered down as a major thunderstorm boomed and cracked for a good hour and brought with it cooler temperatures. Finally, we were rewarded with one of the best fireworks shows in all of Webster County.
There is a peace and a rhythm to returning to the same place over and over, year after year. There is a certain kind of sleep and a certain kind of waking up that is unguarded and freeing. I really cherish these days.
I hope you had a great Independence Day and that you have a place you cherish. Thank you for reading and supporting my work. As always, please feel free to share this with someone you think might like it.
Thanks,
- Roger
